Three Ink National Letters Of Intent With Men’s Basketball

BALTIMORE - Devon Flowers (Hyattsville, Md./The Potomac School), Kenny Jones (Hillside, N.J./Mater Dei Prep) and Casmir Ochiaka (Enugu, Nigeria/St. Mary’s of the Assumption School [New Jersey]) have signed National Letters of Intent and will comprise the Loyola University Maryland men’s basketball Class of 2022, Head Coach G.G. Smith announced Monday.

“We are excited that Devon, Kenny and Casmir are joining our program,” Smith said. “They are great fits for our team, on and off the court, and they will bring intensity to our practices and games. They come from highly-competitive high school programs, and we are looking forward to them officially joining our locker room for next year.”

Flowers led Potomac School to the Independent School League (ISL) ‘A’ Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2016-17, earning All-Mid-Atlantic Conference First Team honors in the process. The post player led the Panthers in points, rebounds, free throws made and blocked shots.

After scoring 14.5 points per game as a junior in 2016, Flowers picked up second team All-State recognition from the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA). He had 12 games with 15 or more points, including a pair of games with 30-plus against John Paul The Great (32) and Episcopal Academy (31). Flowers also was named to the Benedictine Capital City Classic and Kruel Classic first teams. He has played AAU basketball for Maryland Finest and the DC Blue Devils.

Flowers, who averaged seven points per game as a freshman at Gonzaga Prep in Washington, D.C., has been a member of the honor roll throughout high school while also serving as a math tutor.  

Jones has led Mater Dei Prep to back-to-back Shore Conference titles. He posted averages of 11.1 points, 5.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior in 2016-17 when he All-Class B Central Division First Team recognition by the Asbury Park Press and the Shore Sports Network.


 

 

The point guard picked up Shore Conference All-Tournament First Team honors and was an All-Shore Conference second-team honoree during the season. He also garnered All-Zone honors by Shore Sports Network. As a sophomore, Jones helped the Seraphs to the Shore Conference crown while averaging 7.4 points per game. He played his freshman season at Marist High school in Bayonne, New Jersey.

An honor roll student at Mater Dei, Jones played AAU basketball for the Jersey Force and was the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Hoop Group Jam Fest.

Ochiaka has been a starting post player at St. Mary’s of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he has helped the Hilltoppers win back-to-back Union County Interscholastic Athletic Conference titles. As a junior in 2016-17, Ochiaka averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game, earning All-Union County First Team recognition.

A two-year starter, Ochiaka led the team to a ninth-place final ranking in New Jersey last season after helping the Hilltoppers open the season with a 9-0 record. He played AAU basketball for the New Jersey Roadrunners.

Ochiaka is a member of the National Honor Society at St. Mary’s of the Assumption and a member of the school’s honor roll.
