Berry's Impressive Debut Leads Golfers Through First Day Of Doc Gimmler

Loyola University Maryland freshman golfer Brandon Berry put together an impressive start to his collegiate career Saturday, finishing the first two rounds of the season-opening Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red Course in sixth place.

Berry fired four birdies through his first nine holes and completed the two rounds with a total of 10 birdies to finish the day at 2-under 138, with round scores of 67 and 72.

Senior Ethan Wall is second for the Greyhounds, and tied for 10th overall, with a two-round score of 1-over 71 (70, 71), while senior Brendan Peel and junior Erick Alonso are tied for 20th overall at 3-over 143. Both Greyhounds turned in matching round scores of 71 and 72, respectively.

Senior Jeremy Wall is one stroke back of Peel and Alonso, at 4-over 144 (73,71).

Freshman Evan Brown, also making his collegiate debut and playing as an individual, is tied for 58th at 10-over 180. Brown shot an even 70 through his first career round and followed it up with an 80 on his second trip through the course.

As a team, the Greyhounds are third entering tomorrow’s final round and one stroke out of second play. Florida State leads the team race at 9-under 551, followed by Connecticut, at 3-over 563, at Loyola, at 4-over 564. Harvard is fourth with a 6-over 566, and Johnson & Wales rounds out the top five at 8-over 568.

The Greyhounds will tee off at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning and will play the third and final round with Florida State and UConn.
